Who Am I?

Your personal companion on your jourey!

I am Karen Barnes:

Naturopath, Hypnotherapist and Manual Therapist, as well as a social worker/social pedagogue (B.A.). I am married and live with my husband and our dog between North Rhine-Westphalia and the Netherlands, working in both North Rhine-Westphalia and Hessen. My professional path has been shaped by continuous learning and development – “a long and winding road,” as the saying goes.

After completing a three-year training as a naturopath, I specialized in body-oriented psychotherapy. I use a variety of methods to do justice to the full complexity of the people who seek my support.

To broaden and deepen my understanding of human beings, I went on to study Social Work. I focused on the organization and management of social enterprises, which prepared me for leadership roles. I gained valuable experience in hospital social services, in integration support for people with mental illnesses, and in residential elderly care – including in leadership positions.

Today, I work as a practitioner, counselor, companion, and therapist. My work is grounded in the belief that a fulfilling life is rooted in a “healthy” relationship with oneself and the surrounding world. I offer my clients a reliable and compassionate space in which they can find and follow their individual paths. My humanistic view of humanity is reflected in a client-centered approach, enriched by elements of depth psychology. I offer effective and sustainable short-term therapy.

Ongoing training, self reflection techniques and personal development are essential to maintaining high-quality work. By mid-2026, I will have completed a Master’s degree in Psychosocial Counseling and Therapy. In addition, I regularly participate in supervision and maintain professional dialogue with colleagues.

It brings me great joy to accompany people on their journey and to support them in leading a fulfilling and authentic life.

"We don’t see things as they are.

We see them as we are."

(based on Anaïs Nin, from the Talmud)
